memories of Carolina

Mr. M and I had a great time in North Carolina over the long weekend and escaped from California for the first time since Christmas. We got in our history lesson visiting the USS North Carolina (p.s. they had both an ice cream shop AND a letterpress aboard… sign me up for the Navy!), had a blast hanging with my distant NYer-turned-Carolinian family at Gina & Chris’ fantabulous wedding at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, and lost our hearing at the marathon NASCAR Coca-Cola 600.

Sadly, I never seemed to settle in long enough to enjoy some sweet tea, but Chris did eat a crazy Cajun burrito at Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn so I think he was satisfied. Then again…

…he also ate Shrimp & Grits at the wedding… so he wins the local delicacy award for the weekend!

I, on the other hand, ate a deep fried twinkie…. mmmmmm. The perfect racetrack snack!

This amazing little gadget (Sprint’s Fanview) kept everyone entertained as well during all 600 miles… and Mr. M found his favorite driver (#1) to be highly entertaining on the radio.

I’m going to have to work on my fondant painting skills… as this work of art @ Gina & Adam’s wedding certainly takes the cake on my Valentine cupcake art of 2007!

In all… a great time was had by all… and now the unpacking of the house continues… blegh.
