yummy

standard fare

When it comes to food and favorite restaurants … I’m a creature of habit. It freaks me out when Mr. M says, “Stop by ____ and pick up some food, oh and surprise me.” What do you mean I can’t order you just the normal same-old-thing?!?!

I’m so stuck in my habits, that I started thinking of how many "standard orders” I have racked up among the standard chain restaurants of our nation. And funny thing is, some of these places I haven’t been to in years, but know what I would order if I went tomorrow.

Here’s what I came up with (while dining at the lovely In ‘N Out by my office) :

Restaurant

Order

In N Out #2 w/grilled onions only, fries well done & an Arnold Palmer w/pink lemonade
Taco Bell 2 bean burritos w/no onions
Jamba Juice Caribbean Passion w/Vita, Aloha Pineapple w/Energy or a White Gummi Bear
Pinkberry Original w/mangos, kiwi and captain crunch
Chipotle Soft tacos w/chicken, cheese & pico de gallo
Starbucks Peppermint Mocha (year-round!)
Krispy Kreme Glazed Blueberry
Sonic LemonBerry Cream Slush & a corn dog
Wendy’s Plain DoubleStack, fries and a junior Frosty
Cheesecake Factory Thai Chicken Pasta…. but it’s gone now and I’m totally at a loss, like when they got rid of my Basil Pesto Pizza and the day they ran out of meatoaf!
Old Spaghetti Factory

Manager’s Favorite w/ Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter and Meat Sauce

PF Changs DOUBLE PAN-FRIED NOODLES!!!

I’m pretty normal with my orders at local restaurants too, which is why I prefer going to restaurants that change up their menu either daily (i.e. Magpie Café here in Sacramento), or weekly/seasonaly so I have no choice but to be adventurous.

What about you? Do you aim for menu coverage and trying everything once… or do you have a list of normal orders like I do?

We are Taco Bell, Starbucks and Sonic (corn dog only) TWINS! Oh and Wendys with the Jr. Frosty. Last time I ordered one they asked “vanilla or chocolate” as if anyone would ever get a vanilla frosty!

I struggle with this, too – Usually it’s easy for me because I’m vegan and I often only have one (if any) options at a lot of restaurants — but if I go somewhere vegan-friendly (or all vegan!!) I am sooo overwhelmed by options, but when I find something I like I don’t want to branch out.

It depends on where I’m at, though for the most part, I usually rotate between a few tried and true favorites. I’m more likely to try something new at a new restaurant than I am at one of my standard places.
