seperation anxiety… from a car

Today, I’m saying goodbye to one of my closest material friends: my yellow car. Since the fall of 2001, she’s been with me through many adventures, but that journey ends when she meets the fate of the dreaded “trade-in” at the car lot today. She was the sorority taxi in college, the “Hey, I’m driving by your high-rise office, look down and see me!” car of the LA days, and allowed me to be a proud car carrying member of the “I love yellow cars” club. She was only my 2nd car (my first, a ’65 Mustang, is still in my parent’s possession), and she gave me 9 happy happy years behind the wheel.

In her place will be a new family vehicle, one capable of transporting way too much stuff/people/animals anywhere our wheels can take us, and one that’s not so yellow. And I’m sure I’ll grow to love it as well… but right now I’ve got to get through a little bit of silly mourning. I’ll wait until tomorrow to revel in the joy of the new car smell…

He caught the mini-blog fever when his facebook updates got lots of applause during paternity leave… and he loves to write, so it was just a matter of time. If Mr. M had a jigsaw in his saw arsenal (he already has a table, compound miter and 2 skill saws) … I’d send him to the garage to make me some of these! Just imagine all the silly things we could make baby M say!

saturday night in catan

We’re wild and crazy people who like to spend their rainy Saturday nights indoors eating home-cooked food, drinking fun cocktails (mocktails for me), snacking on chocolate goodies, and rolling dice. Yeah yeah… we’re a couple that likes to live on the edge and play weekend matches of Settlers of Catan.

Some of us take the game pretty seriously… by alternating our strategies and messing with our friends on every turn.

And then there are some of us who just like to be fun and fancy-free. I’m not sure there’s a right or wrong way to play it.
.
Any other Catan-crazies out there? We’re old-school and prefer the non-expansion packs, but I also love playing it on my iphone. It’s always a bit more fun that Monopoly

Starring Captain Malcolm Reynolds & the “new” Tinker Bell [see below]

See… I told you I was going to be a UN Ambassador! It just so happens that little miss Tink was named as the UN Ambassador of Green this past week!

Mr. M and I constructed our costumes from a combination of new and old things… and I think they worked out pretty well. I used a Peter Pan costume as the base of mine, and then went to work with some fabric and pins and thread for the rest of it. While I wasn’t completely neon green, I think I ended up pretty close to her new digs… even down to the acorn pin.

Even though we were only dressed up for a few hours, I was happy we had someplace to go, and remembered how fun playing dress up really is. Mr. M would have been a wonderful companion for the endless dress-up parties in college… I can only imagine the silly things we would have come up with! For now, we’ll just have to wait another year and then start thinking of silly family costumes that we can enlist a little baby to join in on!

This Halloween, we won’t be setting up the house for trick-or-treaters like we did last year. Instead, we’ll be headed to a huge “Dia de Los Muertos” party, thrown by our friends who like to really immerse themselves in the spirit of the holiday. I won’t be going as anything scary or scandelous this year, just a UN Ambassador. As for Mr. M, he’ll be dressed up as one of his favorite TV/Movie characters, Captain Malcolm Reynolds (aka. Space Cowboy):

So what will you be doing tomorrow evening? Dressing up or down for a fete? Or simply eating bite sized candies in your pj’s while watching a scary movie?
