baby oil and a toothbrush

.
When you have a new baby, you learn all sorts of new tricks. This is the latest one to add to our repertoire: cradle cap scale removal using mineral oil and a toothbrush. Poor Baby M has a wicked case of scaly cradle c(r)ap all over her head and eyebrows as well — just imagine a really bad case of dandruff that resembles scaly lizard skin! We thought her baby acne was bad but this seems a bit more difficult to manage on our end while it doesn’t seem to affect her at all. We tried to use olive oil in the first go-round, but Baby M smelled a bit too delicious after that. We also suds up her hair with California Baby Lavender and Tea Tree oil shampoo in an attempt to rid her of this icky stuff.
.
Who would have ever thought we’d be scrubbing down her pretty blonde hair with a toothbrush? New things I tell ya!

    Our baby nurse said that she got rid of a really bad case of cradle cap recently by slathering a ton of aquaphor before the bedtime, and then reapplying it a couple more times during the night. It was gone in the morning. Good luck! :-)

    Gosh, how I hated that stupid cradle “crap.” Our pedi recommended a teeny tiny amount of dandruff shampoo at bath time, and I have to say, I think it helped!

    We did this with Charlie, scrubbing and scrubbing with a toothbrush and baby oil, and it didn’t seem to make a difference.

    And with Lily, we haven’t done anything, except not bathe her, and she barely has any! LOL! I swear the lack of baths prevented a bunch of it. But maybe I am just trying to make myself feel better that she didn’t get but 2 baths in her first 2 months! {blushes}

    Yesterday our pedi said to use head and shoulders or TGel, and the mineral oil thing if it gets too bad. So many different opinions on it, right? Piper’s isn’t too bad, only in her part.
