#reverb10 – day 2

December 2 Writing.
What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
(Author: Leo Babauta)

I change my writing voice when I start/stop writing each day. My best writing comes when it’s straight from my train of thought and fresh in my mind. I know where I want to go, where I need to go, and the story I want to tell. If I start/stop writing, my words loose my voice. They just become an AP wire about what I wanted to say and not the heart-filled message I wanted to send out into the universe.

In order to stop, I need to give myself some uninterrupted blogging time. I need to provide 10-15 minutes where I write and that’s all I do. I don’t insert/edit photos. I’m not distracted by Twitter or e-mail. I’m just spitting out the words through the keyboard and then I can get back to all of those other things that sidetrack my thoughts.

I’m going to be better about saving a little piece of time to be in “my zone” and I think it will be beneficial to me and my blogging. Because if I’m only able to share a small portion of what I want to share, I’m sort of failing at my objective in the first place.

YES – i totally relate. and the distraction can be the smallest thing, but it’s completely derailing.

thanks for the lovely post – looking forward to a month of reverberations … and GO SAC! :)

Nice! Yes, if you can set aside some time to not be distracted, it makes things much easier and you can get the blogging over and done with.

I said something very similar about my “distraction” with writing. Justin and I set up a nice desk/office-ish area in our loft, and I really want to make an effort to GO UP THERE and sit in silence and write…I know I could produce more (and better) writing when I do so!

This is really interesting because sometimes I have to take breaks when I write. Writing a few sentences, stopping and thinking, writing again…I feel like that is the only way I can write and produce something worth a darn. Of course, I guess I’ve never actually tried just sitting for 10-15 minutes and forcing myself to write non-stop. Maybe I’ll try that this weekend when I actually *have* that time!

Not 100% related to your post, but I was thinking recently how I’d like to know more about my blogfriends’ lives (one of the reasons I’m so happy about #reverb10), and you came to mind as a sterling example of a blogger who manages to inject yourself elegantly into everyday posts. Compared to many other “bit of everything” bloggers, I feel I know more about your likes and dislikes and a bit of your history — you just have a way of injecting one or two sentences that convey something memorable about you.

And thanks for carrying the torch on keeping our little community of #reverb10 bloggers linked together. I love following everybody’s posts!

Can I just say how absolutely blown away I was by the sweetness of this comment! I really truly appreciate it… because I know that just by virtue of my name being my website, that I’d like to share me with those who care to read my words. It really means a bunch to me. :)
