#reverb10 – day 16

December 16 – Friendship

Prompt: How has a friend changed you or your perspective on the world this year? Was this change gradual, or a sudden burst?

(Author: Martha Mihalick)

This year, a friend found out he had cancer. But I have to remember really hard that it wasn’t just a dream. It went from, “I need to get this checked out at the Dr.” to “OMG” to “Radiation time” to “What, I had cancer?” It’s only in looking back that I realize how remarkably strong he was and is for his journey, and how he barely let this stop him in his tracks.

His dreams and ambitions are still the same. He loves and dislikes didn’t change. His passion for fantasy football didn’t let up from 3-weeks before the draft to the playoffs. And even when he was quarantined in his house and giving off radiation, he kept being himself and rolling with the punches.

The world can be the same, no matter what obstacles jump in your path. Your dreams can remain and you can keep on your path in spite of anything. And you don’t have to be defined by your weakness, no matter how permanent or temporary.
