the perfect day on apple hill

Over Labor Day weekend, Audrey (the bestest bff ever) and her husband Ken came up to Northern California to escape the craziness of life down south. We decided that escaping to our house wasn’t enough, so we planned a weekend in the valley and mountains full of food, fun and white water.

On Saturday, we went to a regional hot spot in the fall: Apple Hill. On weekends, people escape from the bay area to eat hot apple cider donuts, drink cider, go wine tasting, berry picking, let their kids pet some animals and perhaps even walk away with some crafty stuff.

The first stop??? DONUTS at Rainbow Orchards!!!  I’m not telling you any sort of lie when I tell you these are the best donuts I’ve ever eaten in my life. Seriously. They’re fresh out of the oil, they hardly resemble a real cake donut, and they melt in your mouth upon impact. They’re fabulous.

After eating a dozen freshly made donuts (Miss L ate her weight in fresh blueberries) and some apples as well, we headed off to go berry picking!

I don’t want to say who… but a certain someone ate most of the berries we picked out in the field… she couldn’t put them in her mouth fast enough!

After we changed outfits (berry drool… yum!), we headed for our final destination of the early afternoon (& lunch) at the Jack Russell brewery. Along with a wonderfully cool beer to quench our thirst along with a fabulous BBQ lunch, we somehow came home with a growler, and some pint glasses too…

In all, it was an awesome day in the hills with friends… and one that reminds me that getting out and exploring is always ALWAYS worth it in the end!

[p.s. a big THANK YOU again to Auds for all of the awesome pictures… signed the forgetful camera lady]
