lovely

a real movie musical!

My relationship with Les Miserables isn’t the greatest. I had a roommate who got slightly depressed during my sophomore year of college and it happened to coincide with our visit to see a touring production of the show in town. She borrowed a floormate’s copy of the the “Complete Symphonic Recording” and copied it to tape (remember when that happened?!?!) and listened to it non-stop for months on end whenever she was in the room. From start to finish. She’d pause it when she left the room and resume it when it came back on. Ok… so maybe she was more than slightly depressed, but needless to say that I have heard the words and songs more times than I preferred and it became the Macarena/Call Me Maybe of my college days.

So… it’s hard to hear the songs and think of them as anything but elevator music at times.

But then Mr. M showed me this trailer last night, and I’m pretty certain my heart skipped a beat.

Real people singing in real time in a movie musical?!? What?!?! WHAT?!?!

I’m buying an extra large popcorn and soda, bringing my tissues and pretending that I ever mistook “Do you Hear the People Sing?” for background music.

This is going to be utterly amazing friends! :)

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve never seen Les Mis, but every time I watch this preview I get goosebumps. Can’t wait to watch it for the first time in theaters with such amazing actors!

I had no idea that Amanda Seyfried could sing . . . she’s come a long way since Mean Girls :) (although let’s be honest, that movie is great) I saw the first trailer with just Anne Hathaway singing and got excited by that. Looking forward to this coming out!

What an awkward way to have a relationship with Les Mis! My high school’s musical my senior year was Les Mis, and I was weary of this movie at first, because I love the musical so much, but this trailer totally changed my impression! I’m so excited to see it!

I went to the movies this weekend, which let me tell you was such a treat, and this was one of the previews. Afterwards I looked over at my husband and even he was getting teary!! I cannot wait.

When I was in college, my father sang in a chorus. One spring, he grumbled about the music selected for the concert which wasn’t like him. He kept complaining about this awful French revolution stuff he had to sing. Turns out they were singing Les Mis and it was wonderful. He even had a solo! When I hear talk of Les Mis, it always makes me chuckle and think of him. He died a year later so I’m happy to have that silly memory of him.
